This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Planck space observatory tests. Test model (the Planck Qualification Model) showing the Planck space observatory with its three circular radiators, the light baffle, and the focal plane assembly in the centre. These tests are being carried out in the thermal vacuum chamber at the Centre Spatial de Liege (CSL), Belgium. The Planck space observatory is an unmanned spacecraft designed to study the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), the radiation left over from the Big Bang. The spacecraft was launched on 14 May 2009.
