Dr. and Mrs. Rodgers, thepioneer missionaries of the Philippines, oc-cupy the only residence in Manila belongingto the Mission. Ellinwood Seminary andEllinwood Girls Bible Training School, to-gether with their respective dormitories, oc-cupy frame buildings, and there is sufficientland adjoining for a modest assortment oftennis and volley ball courts for the buildings, which have served their pur-pose well, were limited by the amount of the n. FIRST GRADUATES OF THE ELLINWOOD SCHOOLFOR GIRLS 12 original appropriations to wood constructionand are now showing with increasing rapiditythe effect of rot and tropical insects, requiringconstant repair. Sooner or later they mustbe replaced by reinforced concrete,—the onlysatisfactory construction in this country ofearthquakes and vegetable decay. Meanwhile the dormitories have been over-crowded and land has been purchased a blockaway for a new Girls School, $17,000 of thenecessary $20,000 being already appropriatedtoward the new concrete building. \\hen thisis erected the two existing buildings will beused by the Seminary and boys of the unexpended appropriationabove referred to and the Emerson Chapel,the total investment in Manila station for per-manent equipment is about $40,000.
