This mosaic from the House of the Faun in Pompeii dates to the Graeco-Roman period, first -century There are inaccuracies in how the fish were drawn. They are are, from left to right: top: grey mullet, electric ray, gilt-head, (the two little fish are not labeled); second row: umbrina, muraena, scorpion fish; next row: dentes vulgaris, crawfish, devil-fish (like octopus), dogfish; next row: kingfisher (bird with fish), pecten Jacobeus (the shellfish), red mullet, spinola; bottom row: bass, spinola, red gumara, nautis prawn, trigla cucullus, murex. The book dates to 1895.
