Is it possible that the eggs (and perhaps the birds) of sanctae-helenae are gradually decreasing in size? and perhaps reverting towards the size of those of mainland pecuarius ? For comparison, the following are some measurements of the eggs of nominate C. pecuarius:— south Africa (i) McLachlan and Liversidge (1957) 100 eggs average mm.: range x mm. mm. is abnormally narrow.
