Child's Knee
Color enhanced MRI of a lateral view of a child's normal knee, showing the open growth plates at the end of the femur (upper bone) and the upper part of the tibia (lower bone). The growth plates are thin bright white bands crossing horizontally; they add length to the long bones. The small bone on the left is the patella; the dark band of tissue extending from the patella down is the patella tendon; and the small dark triangular structures in the knee joint comprise the meniscus.
