He secured (he appointment ofdeputy county auditor of Rice county, andperformed his duties so faithfully that hewas retained in this office for twelve years,resigning to accept the positimi of assistantcashier of the First National Hank of Fari-bault. Tliis office he held for two years,when, in 1880. he went into business for him-self, forming a i)artnei-shi[) to engage in themanufacture of flour and furniture. He hascontinued in this line of business since thattime, and has been very successful. is one of the most public-spirited. W. He served as chairman of theboard of county commissioners of Rice coun-ty for ten yeai-s. He was elected to the statesenate on the Rei)ublican ticket, and has beenuntiring in his efforts in that body to pro-mote legislation favorable to his own com-munity. He was chosen chairman of therailroad committee in the .session of 1895,and has held the position in every sessionsince that time, working indefatigably forthe interests of the people.
