Lt. William Fox of the Signal Corps captured this photograph on June 10, 1918, during coast defense operations at Fortress Monroe, VA. The image shows a 10-inch gun immediately after firing, with the breech open and smoke still escaping. It was censored and released by the Censor on July 26, 1918.
