ROYAL AIR FORCE: ITALY, THE BALKANS AND SOUTH-EAST EUROPE, 1942-1945. - A Fairchild Argus of the Desert Air Force Communication Flight, takes off from the beach at Vasto, Italy, which served as the landing ground for the Forward Headquarters of the Desert Air Force, based there from December 1943 to March 1944. Parked to the left of the beach is the Fiesler Storch flown by the Air Officer Commanding DAF, Air Vice-Marshal H Broadhurst, with Vultee-Stinson Vigilants, also of the DAF Communications Flight Royal Air Force, Air Force, Western Desert
