Small yellow aeroplane standing on green airstrip towards trees, Lauriston Airport, Hillsborough, Carriacou, West Indies

At 34 square kilometres (13 square miles) and 16 mile long, Carriacou is the largest island of the Grenadines. The climate is tropical and the hilly terrain slopes to white beaches. There are no rivers and local residents rely on rainwater for their water supply. The island has one airstrip, for light aircraft (as seen here), at Lauriston, south of Hillsborough, the largest settlement.
