Vasectomy. Illustration of the structure of the male testis, showing a completed vasectomy. Vasec- tomy is the surgical procedure for sterilisation in a man in which the vas deferens (at upper left) is cut and sutured. This tube transports mature sperm into the urethra to exit from the penis. The simple operation of vasectomy of both testes sterilizes a man without affecting his sexual de- sire or potency. The semen he produces afterwards is sperm free. At right, the dissected testis shows a structure of seminiferous tubules (yellow) which manufacture sperm. Sperm mature in the thick coiled epididymis outside the testis. The testis is well supplied with blood vessels (blue, red).
