The engraving is of a painting by Aaron Draper Shattuck (1832-1928) an American artist of the White Mountain and Hudson River Schools. He remained in the USA for the whole of his life, studied in Boston and at the National Academy of Design in New York City. He was elected Associate and Academician of the National Academy of Design. He painted the White Mountains of New Hampshire and farms and farm animals in Connecticut. By the Stream shows cows by a stream with a backdrop of distant mountains.
