Snow making machine working at Loon Mountain ski area one week before the resort opens for the 2022/23 ski season. Loon Mountain in Lincoln, New Hampshire, 133 miles (215 k) North of Boston, Massachusetts on the American East Coast opened for skiing during the last week of November 2022. The resort was started in 1966 with a summit elevation of 3050 feet (.93 k) now includes 11 lifts servicing 370 acres (150 Hectors) of skiable area that is 99% covered by modern snow making equipment. Climate scientists have found that the ski season in the United States has decreased by 34 days and snow cover has dropped by an average of 41% from 1982 to 2016.
