Much of the following material is taken from Heathcotes De-vonshire in 1630 in which valuable work, considerable space isgiven to the history of the Hole family. The first ancestor, in thisline, named by Heathcote is XIX.—Hugh Hole, born 1403, who married, in 1434 Mar-garet, the daughter of Sir Thomas de Umfraville. Lord ofRiddesdate, of Harbottle, and Lady Agnes, his wife, born this Ancestor we find no further record except that he hadone son, XX.—William Hole, born 1436, who married Joan, daughter ofSimon Cole, Esq., of Slade and had issue, John, Hugh, Nicholas,Baldwin, William and Joan married to John , John married and had issue, Walter, who married Jane, daughter of Thomas Fortescue, of Wimpston in Parish of Mo
