One was oval-shaped and particularly well finished, length 15 inches, breadth 13, and depth 5. The diameterof the funnel at its mouth was 5 inches, and the lowerportion of it was lengthened in a line with the main axis ofthe quern—evidently caused by the friction of the pivot onwhich it turned round. The smaller end, containing thehole for a handle, was curved downwards, so that its tip was1 f inch lower than the under surface of the quern; anotherstriking evidence of the long period the stone had been inactual \ -Spindle Whorl H). 166.
