Broad new streets lead from the station to the old town (Alt-stadt), in which many 15-17th cent, buildings still stand. TheRathaus (PI. 3, D, 3; entrance, Obere Reichs-Str. 50) dates fromthe 15th cent.; in the Council Chamber is some good woodenpanelling of 1583 (recently transferred hither). No. 75 in the ObereReichs-Str. is the house in which Angelica Kaufmann (1741-1807)was born. The Prot. St. Martins Church (PI. 6; D, E, 3), besidewhich stands the old St. Martins Fountain, dates from the 15thcentury.
