LTHOUGH THE FUNDAMENTAL physio-patho-logical effects of nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia and an-aesthesia have been rather thoroughly reviewed, there arecertain other general effects on the mother and child whichmust not be overlooked. Perhaps the most unpleasEutiteffect that has been noticed as occurring, with any recog-nized degree of frequency, is headache, usually of a mild and transitory char-acter. This headache may be due to too intensive an administration of thenitrous oxide, rebreathing or an inadequate amount of oxygenation, permittinga very light degree of cyanosis over a long time. Thorough oxygenation afterdelivery goes far in avoiding this complicating aftermath. Control of Nausea and Vomiting.—^All observers are agreed thatunder nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia and anaesthesia there is less nausea andvomiting than under any other form of general narcosis.
