Fashion of course may have much todo with the apotheosis of-the cat, but thereis little, doubt that merit has won for itselfan acknowledgment well deserved. It is doubtful however whether the generalpublic have any idea of the extent to whichcat culture has attained. They know thatthere are short-haired and long-haired catsand that is about all. Of Chinchillas, andsilvers and shaded silvers, of blues andsmokes, of creams, and various otherclasses whose finely drawn qualificationsare a standing puzzle to judges them-selves, they have but slight acquaintance. But that the attraction, the fascinationwe might say, of cat breeding is graduallyextending is shown by the increasingnumber of cat societies not only inEngland but all the world over.
