Gyromitra tasmanica. Southern false morel is a family of fungi with members that live both above ground and under the soil. Despite this, these mushrooms share similarities in their appearance, with most species having characteristic bulbous fruiting bodies that look a little like a brain. The best-known fungi in this family are those of the Gyromitra genus, better known as false morels. Credit: BSpragg
