Argonaut Soldiers Springing from Dragon's Teeth

According to Greek mythology, Jason was a hero who claimed the kingdom of Iolcus, which his uncle Pelias had stolen from his father Aeson. Pelias would restore the kingdom only if Jason brought him the golden fleece from the kingdom of Colchis, ruled by Aeetes on the Black Sea. Aeetes said he would give Jason the fleece after he killed the fire-breathing dragon that guarded the fleece, sowed the dragon's teeth, and killed the soldiers who sprang from the teeth. This 1902 illustration shows the armed men that sprang from the dragon's teeth.
