Gornergrat rack railway. Historical image of the rack railway that runs from Zermat to the summit of the Gornergrat, Switzerland, with the Matterhorn mountain in the background. At 1809 metres above sea level, this railway is the second highest in Europe. It opened in 1898 and was the first electric rack railway to be built in Switzerland.
