There is an improvea tone in the mar- ket this week. Summer is waning, vaca- tionists are coming home, nights are growing cooler, outdoor flowers are grad- ually passing and we need but a good rain storm or a light frost to cause a decided boom in prices for indoor flow- ers. Already there is a noticeable im- provement in retail trade and sales are fully as good as they were a year ago. Factories are gradually getting back to normal production, money rates are easier and the general outlook for fall trade is encouraging. Gladioli, which have for many weeks glutted the markets, are rapidly pass- ing. Supplies are much reduced and spikes are smaller. Prices show an im- provement over a week ago. There are still too many asters, especially of the inferior type, and they also are nearing the end of their tether. Good flowers bring $2 to $3 per hundred, others $3 to $4 per thousand. The present month will see the passing of most of the aster crop. Other outdoor flowers, like cos- mos, larkspur, zinnias, hunnemannias, everlastings, bachelor's buttons, etc., are a slow sale.
