The trail cars will be fitted with threedouble sliding doors, each wide enough to permit twopassengers to board or alight at one time. On themotor cars and control trail cars there will in addition. INTERIOR OF NEW LONDON UNDERGROUND CAR be single doors at the ends. These will be availablefor the use of passengers when not obstructed by thetrain crews. Thus on an eight-car train there will bethe equivalent of fifty-two single doors for the useof passengers. This provision for speedy passengertransfer is expected materially to reduce the time takenin loading and unloading at stations and permit agreater number of trains to pass over the congestedsections of the line during rush hours. The presenttype of end vestibule will be dispensed with in the newdesign and the doors will be equally spaced along the by adding motors, and the braking apparatus has beenselected to permit quicker stopping. The eight-car trains will be made up of two self-contained sections with a view to operating five-cartrains during the slack hours and eight-car trains duringthe rush hours.
