Figure 2. Columnar section of uppermost Permian and Triassic strata cropping out along the east side of tfie Kabul-Gardez road at Kotal-e-Tera. K4. Limestone, gray, made up of shell fragments, with very fine-grained matrix, thin bedded, unit weak, no fossils seen. 2 K3. Limestone, gray, made up of shell fragments with very fine- to fine-grained matrix, partly dolomitic; contains abundant ammonoids. 40 K2. Dolomite, buff to gray, fine- to medium-grained, upper part red in color; contains abundant ammonoids. 35 KL Dolomite, gray, massive, no fossils seen, unit poorly exposed. 16 Bed Kl of the above section is just the upper part of the Permian formations ex- posed at Kotal-e-Tera and is in fault con- tact with bed K2. The Owenites fauna described by Kummel and Erben (1968) is present in beds K2 and K3. From this outcrop and from that on the west side of the Kabul-Garde/, road, Kummel and Erben (1968) recognized the following species of ammonoids: Pseudosiiiicceras muhiJohatum Noetling Siibinyoites cf. kushmiricus (Diener) SubvisJuuiites weltcri Spath Xenodiscoidcs cf. jahatum (Waagen) Dieneroceras knecJiti (Hyatt and Smith) Chjpeoccras t/udisJitJiira (Diener) Eoptycliitcs sp. indet. Oiccnitcs kocnoii Hyatt and Smith Owenites shivini (Popov) Paranannites aspenensis Hyatt and Smith Jiwenites sp. indet. AnohisJuniiites ang, itstecostotus (Welter) iirac'ditatis White Arctoceras musJd)aeh(inum (White) llcmiprionites hungeri Kummel Anasd)U'ites kiuii^iunus (Waagen) My new collections from the Ouenitcs beds at Kotal-e-Tera contain four additional species which are described here. These are Juvenites cf. septentrionalis Smith Wyoviingites aplanatus (White) Hemiprionites iijpus (Waagen)
