The jaw is very commonly involved in cattle, much less frequentlyin man. There is swelling of the side of the face, usually involving thelower, rarely the upper jaw. The appearance may suggest sarcoma or aphlegmon. Sinuses form and the characteristic pus is discharged. Bur-rowing may take place in various directions. Indolent ulcers are duration is variable. Very rarely the fatal issue occurs as the resultof secondary infection or embolism in a few weeks. The usual course ischronic and maj^ extend over years. The tongue may be involved either.
