Fine adjustment valve. Valves such as this were used to regulate the pressure of anaesthetic gases, such as oxygen and nitrous oxide, from pressurised gas cylinders. The valves allowed control of the pressure of gases reaching the patient during general anaesthesia. Compressed gases in cylinders were introduced in the late 19th century.
