The ill-fated British expedition to Carthagena, whichwas to have struck Spanish America from the east, whileAnson was playing his part in the west, is described inAuthentic Papers relating to the Expeditions againstCarthagena, being the Resolutions of the Councils ofWar, both of Sea and Land officers etc. This is anoctavo volume, published in 1745. It should be remarked, too, that Smollett, the novelist,accompanied the British forces to Carthagena, and pub-lished an account of the expedition. Various narratives concerning the wreck of were published about the middle of the eighteenthcentury, among them one by Isaac Morris, midshipman:^Narrative of the Dangers
