The anchor plate is thenlowered into the hole and set on the end of the pull-rodby means of a special hook casting fastened to the endof a tamping bar. The slot in the anchor plate istapered so that it will slip over the end of the pull-rodwithout difficulty. When the plate is released it assumesa position in which the anchor head socket engages thehead of the pull-rod, holding both securely in place. Itis asserted that this anchor has a greater holding power. than a dead-man of the same area, and at the same timeit is much more quickly and easily installed. It has anadvantage over other types in that the strain is againstundisturbed earth. The manner of attaching the pull-rod to the anchor plate is also considered advantageousbecause there are no threads, consequently the entirepull-rod section is available for anchor strains. W. B.
