There are also the quarter and sixth (the smaller) part of the shekel in copper. 1 Numismatists differ as to the reverse type of the Jewish shekel coins of Simon. Madden says, The reverse type has usuallybeen considered to represent Aarons rod thatbudded. And, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and broughtforth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds. (Numbers xvii. 8.) The tripleblossom has certainly not much resemblance to the almond-blossom, and Cavedoni pre-fers seeing a hyacinth sty lily, according to the words of Holy Writ, I will be as dewupon Israel, and he shall bloom like a lily.
