Wheeler attacked, defeated and drove himback upon McCooks command. Fighting continued daily until the 17th, when, pursuant toorders, Wheeler pushed through Dug and Catletts Gaps, andmaking a vigorous attack, captured a number of prisoners. On the 18th, Wheeler had a severe engagement near OwensFord, in which he overcame a large force of the enemy, cap-turing both prisoners and property.
