Characteristic riparian gallery forest habitat used by rare Black Hawks in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Fremont's Cottonwood (Populus fremontii) and Arizona Sycamore (Platanus wrightii) are the most common nest trees used by this hawk in Arizona. Gooding s Willow (Salix goodingii) is the other major tree in this habitat. River habitat is rare in Arizona - 90% of riparian habitat has been decimated by develpement, cattle grazing, and climate change.
