The spherical perfume-burners which were used toroll on the pavement are highly artistic and might be adopted inthe present day. One or two bronze buckets of a well exist atthe Madrid Archseological Museum, with some small objectsof little importance found at Cordova. This artistic industryhas continued until the present day in Spain in the form of. MOORISH LAMP. In metal work as in architecture, a large number of instancesexist in Spain in which the Christian and Moorish styles areblended—as an example of this style may be mentioned the finebronze gates of the cathedral of Toledo. These doors, which are18 ft. high by 12 ft. wide, are covered on both sides with bronzeplates; the outer side is decorated with a geometrical Moorishdesign and small Arabic inscriptions, alternating with castles anda number of Arabic mottoes. In one of the side bands and inthe lower part may be read in Spanish the following inscription : Estas puertas fueron acabadas en el mes de Marzo era de milc ccc. setanta e cinco anos.
