The Housatonic rises in Berkshire county in Massachu-setts. It passes through a number of pleasant towns,and empties into Long Island Sound, between Milfordand Stratford, which last name it bears from Naugatukriver, about 9 miles from its mouth. In this river, be-tween Salisbury and Canaan, in the N.
