Andrew Jackson and his brother were placed under guard in Charleston and a British officer asked Andrew to clean his boots.

In 1780, following the siege of Charleston, the British returned to the area to plunder the area. Andrew Jackson and his brother were placed under guard and a British officer asked Andrew to clean his boots (pictured here in this 1876 engraving). Andrew refused and the officer struck him with a sword. Andrew and his brother was jailed. His brother died from his wounds. Andrew was freed in a prisoner exchange. Andrew later became the 7th president of the United States.
