FIRST OF THE ROMANOFF CZARS.—The present royalty of Russia came to the throne in 1613, when, after a time of terrible disaster and civil war, the aroused people elected a Czar of their own. They chose Michael Romanoff, son of one of their most noble and patriotic bishops.”
