Early C16th gatehouse with staircase turret at Crossraguel Abbey. Maybole, South Ayrshire, Scotland, UK
Early C16th gatehouse with staircase turret at Crossraguel Abbey, a Cluniac house originally founded in the early C13th by Duncan, Earl of Carrick. Gatehouse and a separate tower-house were added in the time of the last regular abbot, William Kennedy 1520-47, perhaps to accommodate Quintin, Earl of Cassillis, who lived there for 11 eleven years under the guardianship of his uncle Abbot William.
