Panda by a trickle of water, Bifeng Xia, Sichuan, China
The Bifengxia Panda Center was built in forested area in Ya’an City, Sichuan Province in 2003. It replaced the Wolong center after the earthquake in 2008 that damaged the Wolong center, necessitating the evacuation of the pandas. The center covers 988 acres. Bifeng Xia was planned initially to house mostly sub-adults and senior pandas, but it has a small breeding area and a hospital. At present, there are 58 large enclosures for the Giant Panda at Bifeng Xia.
