The 450 foot high chimney stood for over 50 years was part of the Anglesey Aluminium smelting works site. Closed in 2013, The site had been the largest single user of electricity (255 MW) in the UK as well as one of the largest employers. The site is now being re developed and required the removal of the chimney. The detonation was initiated by 69 year old Mr Geraint Williams of Aberffraw who won the opportunity by winning a raffle in aid of the RNLI.
