At the end of the large high ceiling arch of the Palazzo di Re Enzo is one of Bologna’s famous tourist attractions, Fontana del Nettuno (Fountain of Neptune). It is located on the small Piazza del Nettuno, next to the larger Palazza Maggiore in Bologna in the Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy. The Fountain of Neptune was erected between 1564 and 1566, when Pope Pius IV decided to give the Bolognesi something they did not yet have: a public fountain. The monument was created by Flemish sculptor Jean de Boulogne, known as Giambologna who conceived the idea from ancient Greek-Roman statues.
