Statue of Philipp Melanchthon, Lutheran Cathedral, Helsinki, Finland, 2011. Melanchthon (1497-1560) was a German clergyman and theologian. He was a friend of Martin Luther, after whose death he became leader of the German Protestant Reformation. Helsinki's Lutheran Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko), also known as the Cathedral of St Nicholas, was designed by by Carl Engel and built between 1830 and 1852.
