Bottles with water near the devastated school No. 1 in Beslan, North Ossetia, Russia, in commemoration of hundreds of hostages killed during a terrorist attack. Heavily armed terrorists demanding that Russian troops pull back from the republic of Chechnya took over a thousand school children and their teachers hostage in the school on the 1st of September, 2004. Hundreds of hostages, including 186 children, died when Russian forces stormed the school on the 3rd of September. Altogether 334 people were killed during the three days of the hostage drama.
