Evaporites of hard water (left) and distilled water. Hard water contains dissolved minerals, commonly calcium bicarbonates. When the water evaporates, the bicarbonate is left behind as limescale. Distilled water has all the minerals removed from it, so leaves a clean dish when evaporated.
