If there is a septic wound it shouldbe opened to its bottom, to permit the escape of any infectiousproducts. If the swelling assumes dangerous proportions, notime should be lost in making deep incisions into the body ofthe tongue. These should not be long or continuous, but merelydeep punctures with a bistoury, and as many as may seem indi-cated.
