We have only a few Irises in our garden, and they seldom flower. So, a spectacular purple and yellow specimen like this is an occasion! Iris is a family of over 250 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. They take their name from the Greek for rainbow, which is also the name for the eponymous goddess of the rainbow. Very apt.
