Marshal of Pomeranian Voivodeship Mieczyslaw Struk (L) and former President of Poland Lech Walesa (C) are seen during the celebrations of anniversary of December December 14-22, 1970, there were riots and strikes due to the rise in retail food prices by the authorities. During these events 40 people were killed and more than 1,100 were injured. The largest workers strikes took place in Gdansk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Elblag. They were suppressed by the army and the militia.
