Exterior Wall of Bayard’s Cove Fort, With Distant View of Port of Kingswear and River Dart, Dartmouth, Devon, England.

View looking at the historic fortified wall at Bayard’s Cove fort Dartmouth, Devon. Detail of its stone structure and canon ports. Beyond is the River Dart, quay and passenger jetty at Kingswear. Bayard's Cove fort was built at the narrowest part of the River Dart estuary in 1534 to protect the busy port. At ground level are a series of gun ports with commanding views which can be explored today. There would have been steps to an upper walk way, a view point and location to fire muskets at potential marauders. The waterfront setting along the Quay approach to the fort is a very popular location for film makers. The view beyond is that includes the Lower Ferry slipway and moored boats. This waterfront setting is a very popular location for film makers. Views along this West Country estuary are stunning and can be best viewed from the river
