In the year 1826 hewas appointed professor of languages inAugusta College in his native years later he served as chaplain inthe United States Senate. After twoyears of editorial work on the ChristianAdvocate, he was unanimously electedpresident of Dickinson College, a postwhich he filled for eleven years. Whenhe left it, he had established for himselfa secure reputation for administrativeand executive ability. The close of hislife was spent in the important post ofmissionary secretary.
