Capt. Daniel Groff, 79th Fighter Squadron F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet pilot, prepares for a night flight during Red Flag 19-1 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., Jan 29, 2019. The exercise was initially created after Vietnam to expose pilots to their first 10 missions so they would be more confident and effective in real combat. The goal of Red Flag now is to prepare and its allies to peer-level adversaries in any combat environment.
