Goth Convention weekend at Whitby, North Yorkshire in Britain Hundreds of black clad Goths descend on the historic and picturesque seaside harbour town of Whitby, held twice a year on the last weekend of April and on Halloween’s in October. Many attending the convention, travelled in creepy looking black hearses or Goth customised vehicles. Goths associate Whitby with its famous dark character, Count Dracula and his maiden vampires who prowled the burial grounds around the Church of St. Mary, high up on a hill overlooking the sleepy harbour town. The Church is next door to the ruins of Gothic Whitby Abbey. It is believed that Whitby was chosen for its Dracula connections when novelist, Bram Stoker found some of his inspiration for 'Dracula' after staying in Whitby in 1890. He stayed in a house on the West Cliff and was trying to decide whether it would be suitable for a family holiday.
