Henry Eckhoff was educated in the schools of Germany and at the ageof twenty-eight years, in [871, lie immigrated to .\merica and first settled in a K HO ao ?=1>. J CLAY AND NORMAN COUNTIES, MINNESOTA. 5I3 Red Wing, Minnesota, and in that place he worked on farms for someyears, saving his earnings with the object of making a purcha:se for him-self. In 1880 he came to Norman county and homesteaded a tract of eightyacres in section 8, Pleasant View township, later buying a tree claim thathad been proved up b}- his wifes father. As Mr. Eckhoff prospered in hisfarming operations he continued to add more land to his holdings and isnow the owner of five hundred and sixty acres of prime land, and here he isengaged in general farming and stock raising, success attending his laborsfrom the very beginning. He has carried out many excellent improvements,laid out groves and fences, and in 1894 he erected a new dwelling houseto replace the old house that had done duty for several years and in 1913he added to the other improvements a new and substantial barn.
