Dorsals 1^", 117; the first two spines measuring -g to -f length of head, longest soft ray about the same length; second dorsal originating above anterior third of anal. Anal III 9 (exceptionally 8). Pectoral f to once length of head; no scaly process above the axil. Caudal forked, as long as or a little longer than head. Caudal peduncle Ij to 2 times as long as deep. 40-40 scales in longitudinal series, 13-15 in trans- verse series. Greyish brown above, silvery white beneath ; more or less.
